I earned my Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Oregon (1986). After 5 years as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas, Austin, I accepted a position as an Associate Professor of Marketing at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) (1991). I was promoted to Full Professor in 1995. I recently retired from teaching, but continue to work on research with younger co-authors. In addition to a program of research that deals with ad-based persuasion, the impact of emotion/affect on consumer judgments and persuasion, and human values; my research interests include structural equation models and methodological issues. My publications appear in well-respected outlets, including top-tier academic journals in the social sciences.
My academic studies and training are varied. At Michigan State University, I earned a BA degree in Mathematics with minors in Art and Education. I also earned a MA in Guidance & Counseling and an MBA from the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO. During my career as an instructor (high school and college levels), I worked with local businesses.
Sports have always been very imprtant in my life. Some injuries forced me to give up long distance running and downhill skiing, but I still enjoy walking, horseback riding, swimming, yoga, and cautious weight training. Other passions include art/graphic design, cooking, and learning new languages (which are challenging for me).
I spent my childhood in Larchmont, NY, a small town on the Long Island Sound. I compiled some childhood photos of myself and my immediate family in a Family Video on YouTube.
